The Big Bash League is a very popular league and is second only to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in terms both of quality and viewership. The BBL draws players from all over the globe, making it a riveting event. The BBL’s surfaces have plenty of appeal for both bowlers and batsmen, making the game of cricket an enjoyable experience.
Cricket Australia established this T20 league back in 2011. It is sponsored by KFC, a fast-food restaurant. The 11th edition of the Big Bash League took place in 2021-22.
Eight city-based franchises are represented in the tournament: Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars; Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat; Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers; and Hobart Hurricanes and Hobart Hurricanes. Six out of eight teams have won at least one BBL title. With three titles each, Adelaide and Perth Scorchers are the most successful BBL teams.
The Perth Scorchers are the most recent champions in the BBL. They beat the Sydney Sixers to win their fourth title in BBL 11. This was the fifth meeting between these two teams. The first was in the inaugural Big Bash League, which was won by Sydney Sixers. They beat the Scorchers seven to one at the WACA.
BBL TEAMS
Each team has 18 players. Each team can only allow 2 foreign players.
Adelaide Strikers
The Strikers are a South Australian cricket team. They have the third-highest success rate and have played 75 matches in the BBL league, with 39 wins and 24 losses. They won the seventh season of BBL.
Brisbane Heat
The Heat won BBL Season Two and qualified for CLT20 that year. Brisbane Cricket Ground is their home ground and can accommodate 42,000 people at a time.
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes are one of only two teams in BBL to have not won a title over the eight seasons. They also have the most successful run chases in all eight seasons.
Melbourne Renegades
Their first BBL title was won in Season 8, when they beat Melbourne Stars at their home ground, the Marvel Stadium with 56,347 seats.
Melbourne Stars
The Melbourne Stars are the fourth most successful team in terms of winning. Stars have not yet been awarded a BBL title. The Stars’ home ground is Melbourne Cricket Ground, which is the biggest cricket stadium in the country. It can hold 100,024 people at a time.
Perth Scorchers
The Perth Scorchers are the most successful BBL team. They have won the BBL title 3 times and were back-to-back champions for 2 years in the third and 4th seasons. They were also eligible for five of the eight BBL Finals seasons.
Sydney Sixers
The first season of BBL was won by Sydney Sixers. They won the first season of BBL and went on to win the CLT20 championship that same year. They are based at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which can hold 48,601 fans.
Sydney Thunder
The fifth season saw Sydney Thunder win their first BBL championship title. They also won the first Women’s Big Bash League title. Spotless Stadium, which can hold approximately 24,000 people, is their home ground.
